Editorial Policy

How HarborWatt researches, writes, reviews, and corrects its marine electrical guides, and how we stay independent.

Effective date: July 4, 2026

This Editorial Policy explains how HarborWatt researches, writes, and reviews its content, and how we keep it trustworthy.

How we create content

Our articles are written by people with hands-on marine electrical experience. We draw on real installations, testing on the water, and recognized standards such as guidance from the American Boat and Yacht Council. We write in plain language and explain terms the first time they appear.

Accuracy and sourcing

We check technical claims against reputable sources and manufacturer documentation. Where a figure matters for safety, we lean conservative. When we cite outside sources, we link to them so you can verify.

Independence

We do not publish sponsored articles, and no advertiser or manufacturer approves our content before publication. Our recommendations reflect our honest assessment, not who pays us.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it. Readers can report errors to [email protected], and we update the affected guide as soon as we confirm the issue.

Updates

Marine gear changes, so we revisit guides over time and refresh them when the guidance shifts. Significant updates are reflected in the article’s modified date.

Advertising and monetization

To keep the site free, we may show advertising and use affiliate links. These are kept separate from our editorial judgment and are disclosed clearly. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
